Yellow Saucepan

"Yellow Saucepan", 10 x 12 In, Oil on Museum Board
The other day I went down to our local antique co-op and found some really cool stuff. One was a set of two yellow enamel saucepans--the perfect size for still life painting and a wonderful color. This is one of them.

Purchase this unframed painting.

  1. I'm wondering why some paintings feel so "right" and appealing to me (or any viewer). Is it mostly a subjective thing? What I love about your painting: the composition, the buttery quality of the paint and the way you've applied it; the color harmony; how the spoon leads me in as does the pot. But the shadow on the pot leads me back to the spoon, with its great reflected colors. The red cup seems to play an important supporting role—the painting wouldn't seem as strong to me without its weight and color. Beautiful. It got me thinking!

  2. Your palette is so nice here. The painting takes me back someplace, I'm not sure where, but it's nice, it's warm.

  3. Pam and Janett Marie--thank you so much for your comments. I'm enjoying using saturated warm colors during these cold days.

  4. For me, it's the clean rich color here as well as the composition and the harmony. The recent ones have all been good, but this one just has such...clarity. That's the best word I can think of to describe it. I love it.
