Mt. Baker

Mt. Baker, 10 x 12 In, Oil on Museum Board, Plein Air

This was the second painting on the first day of our painting trip to Mt. Baker/Mt. Shuksan. Sometimes, because of time, sun, mosquitos or companions taking off for other spots, there is more of a feeling of painting with abandonment--of not second guessing every stroke of the brush. This was such a painting.

Mt. Shuksan

"Mt. Shuksan", 10 x 12 In, Oil on Musuem Board

I spent the last couple of days with a group of Northwest artists up at Artist Point, between Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan. The days were warm and the sun nearly blinding. No snow at Artist Point, which is an anomaly for this time of year. We are praying for incessant precipitation next winter, because we do like our glaciers!

Wind on the Palouse

"Wind on the Palouse", 10 x 12 In, Oil on Museum Board
The title of this painting came from the fact that the painting was done in a high wind with gusts so strong they moved the brush! So I can truly say the wind was my mentor in this painting!  Strangely, as soon as we stopped painting, the wind died down!

Upper Palouse Falls

"Upper Palouse Falls", 10 x 12 In, Oil on Museum Board

The 2nd day of the Palouse Falls paint-out, we hiked to the Upper Palouse Falls. The hike involved a steep trail from the upper embankment down to the river. It is not as dramatic as the main falls, but equally beautiful.
