Idaho Farmland

"Idaho Farmland", 6 x 10 In, Oil on Museum Board

I've been doing studies recently, in the smaller size range, vacillating between painting knife and brush and in the process at times becoming disoriented as to my method. But that has to be all to the good, right? This one had just a few brushstrokes with a simple composition.

Sierra Madre Winter

"Sierra Madre Winter", 8 x 10 In, Oil on Museum Board
I painted this on my trip to Pescadero at the tip of Baja in January, 2018. It was an attempt to capture the atmosphere and color of the Sierra Madre and the desert in winter. I have been experimenting with painting knife, but with this painting I went back to the brush. I know there are areas in the Southwest, mountains and desert, that are equally beautiful. There is a special feeling about each place and a painting helps me to remember the magic of a place--in this case, Baja.

River Crossing San Jacinto

"River Crossing San Jacino", 8 x 10 In, Oil on Museum Board
When I was in Baja with Jolyn, we drove up into the Sierra Madre on a windy dirt road. Surprisingly there was a river crossing at San Jacinto that we decided we'd best not attempt. So we painted the river and the view of the mountains. Our companions were a mama pig and her two piglets who were very interested in what we had with us! This painting was another experiment for me with water soluble paints and painting knife application.
