Quinault Back Road

12/5/11 "Quinault Back Road" 5 x 8 In, Oil on Museum Board
We painted up the Quinault River in the Olympic National Park, jumping out of the cars for quick sketches. These were painted at the first 30 minute stop. I love doing sketches like this--no time for thought or reconsideration--just the hand and the eye, and then letting it be what it is.

  1. Amazing to think you can capture all this in 30 mins. They are fresh, atmospheric, beautiful little paintings

  2. These are great! I really like the colors and composition, and the bold simplicity of the sketches. We were there in October and I really get the feeling of the place in these paintings.

My wife and I learned of your blog from Jeanne Edwards. Very nice work!
