Nisqually Wind Southwest
"Nisqually Wind Southwest", 8 x 10 In, Oil, 2022
Painted this last weekend at the Plein Air Washington annual paint-out to the Nisqually Delta. It was cold and windy. The Nisqually river is only 81 miles long but for us old mountain climbers, it is a journey that starts with the icy water rushing from beneath the Nisqually Glacier around the boulders above timberline on Mt. Rainier. It ends at the Nisqually Reach, which has been through many transformations but is now a treasured National Wildlife Refuge.

Winthrop Field
"Winthrop Field", 10 x 10 In, Oil, 2017
Washington State has everything: Pacific coast, rivers, mountains, deserts, farmland, old growth forest, cities, volcanos! I just read that the Cascade Forest Conservancy has won their lawsuit to deny mining exploration near Mt. St Helens. https://wawild.org/successful-lawsuit-halts-mining-threat-in-green-river-valley-near-mount-st-helens/

Idaho Slough
"Idaho Slough", 9 x 12 In, Oil, 2021
Sometimes you just ago ahead and paint something that doesn't go along with the normal rules--in this case having distinct value shapes. "Idaho Slough" is about higher key abstract color variation with a couple of dark rock indications thrown in.
