"Aix Vineyard", 6 x 9 In, Oil on Museum Board
I'm still working on cataloging my paintings and probably will be for months. This is another one from years ago from a painting trip to France.

St. Tropez - NFS

"St. Tropez", Oil on Museum Board, 6 x 9 In

I'm working on a long term project to organize my paintings of the last 20 years. There are some I've kept and have on my walls and others long gone--just numbered images on my computer. For many of them, I can't remember exactly when or where I did them. Fortunately, this one has a date, September 2002, and with a little help from my facebook friends, identified it as San Tropez. I went to France in 2002 with my instructor Simon Kogan and others from our class and have wonderful memories, but for the most part, no memory of geographical location.

Mt. Blanc - NFS

"Mt. Blanc", 4 x 4 In, Oil on Museum Board
This is a tiny painting done with a group of painters in France, in 2001. Our mission, as I remember it, was to paint fast and limited brushstrokes. I have always enjoyed painting like this.

Angoin - Sold

"Angoin", 8 x 10 In, Oil on Canvas
This is a painting of the chalet we stayed at in Burgundy in May. Mainly I was experimenting with painting on a heavy weave canvas, something I've not done for years.

There is a Plein Air Washington event in the San Juan's July 22-28, sponsored by the San Juan Preservation Trust. I will be staying on Lopez Island. If anyone is looking for a place to stay, please contact me!

Road Near Angoin - SOLD

"Road Near Angoin", 12 x 16 In, Oil on Museum Boaard
The small village where we stayed in France had maybe 10-15 dwellings at the most, all of them old and made of stone. It was so pastoral and beautiful. We did have several cloudy days, but that makes for beautiful skies.

Burgundy Mist - SOLD

"Burgundy Mist", 8 x 12 In, Oil on Museum Board
Sometimes the scene has little color change and in the mist, little value change. So it is a challenge for me to do a painting like this. It is mostly abstract color/value shapes.

Field in Burgundy - SOLD

"Field in Burgundy", 12 x 16 In, Oil on Museum Board
This was a field close to the chateau where we stayed in France--beautiful rolling hills with old stone houses.

Bridge at Angoin

"Bridge at Angoin", 12 x 16 In, Oil on Museum Board
This is the second painting I did on the cloudy/rainy day in Angoin using mainly transparent washes to start and not going far beyond that. It is unusual for me to paint so deliberately though it probably doesn't look particularly deliberate!

Purchase this unframed painting.
Contact me if you would like to purchase a plein air frame.

House Gate at Angoin

"House Gate at Angoin", 12 x 16 In, Oil on Museum Board
For two weeks in May I painted around a small town in Burgundy, France at a workshop.  I experimented with a different approach, mainly starting the oil painting with a water color like wash. With this painting I didn't actually go far beyond the wash, so it was an interesting contrast in approach to my usual thick paint brush load. The skies were overcast much of the time, so this painting was full of grays.
