Nisqually Sky

"Nisqually Sky", 10 x 12 In, Oil on Museum Board
This was one of the sketches I did out in the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge--where the Nisqually River, which originates on Mt. Rainier, flows into Puget Sound. In the early 70's there was an attempt to build a Tacoma like port in the Nisqually Delta, stopped by citizen efforts to protect this beautiful area.

Road to Long Beach

"Road to Long Beach", 11 x 14 In, Oil On Museum Board
When we drove down to Long Beach on the southwest coast of Washington State there was a beautiful sunset which photos cannot convey, so the painting has to have some memory in it.

Turquoise Dress - NFS

"Turquoise Dress", 12 x 9 In, Oil on Panel
So much of painting is not particularly romantic, its more like an obsession--doing it every day whatever the mood of the moment. You notice that I do have certain themes, and painting my daughters is one of them.

Roses - NFS

"Roses", 14 x 14 In, Oil on Panel
It is interesting to try the same painting over again with variation in setup and size. It makes me think about what I did the first time around and how I want to do it this time.

Clouds over Harstene

"Clouds over Harstene", 5 x 9 In, Oil on Museum Board
This is the far view out my window, looking out across Dana Passage to Harstene Island and beyond that to the Peninsula. Sometimes I like to do several of these small sketches.

Zangle Cove

"Zangle Cove", 11 x 14 In, Oil on Panel
Every day I look out at the cove and I am often inspired to paint it because it changes every few minutes. I feel lucky to live in this beautiful spot where the rhythms of the earth are so apparent.
