Columbia Gorge Tree
7/13/10 "Columbia Gorge Tree", 10" x 12", Oil
This is another painting from last week's workshop--on a hot, hot day by the Columbia River. You can see I was experimenting with using big flat brushstrokes--laying them on. This is the first time I have used a "bright" bristle brush in years, so it was interesting compared to filberts and flats.

It's lovely. I especially like the way you captured the light on the trunk.
ReplyDeleteLove your paintings! I have been so impressed with your work at Peggi's workshop that I ordered here DVDs and am enjoying them and learning a lot. And as you said, it does take some practice and lots of canvas to have everything sink in. There is a lot to learn - especially for me! :-)
ReplyDeleteI really like the strong composition and the massive feeling of the tree!
ReplyDeleteThanks you all for the comments. Last week at the workshop I actually felt like I had forgotten how to paint. Its coming back, I'm relieved to say, but I won't be able to take good photos until I get home.
