Portrait Study #6

"Portrait Study #6", 14 x 11 In, Oil on Museum Board

You can probably tell I am not going for the perfect rendering or the perfect variation of skin tone or the perfect anything. I am on my way somewhere else. I have an idea of where I am trying to go but I have a feeling I am going to have to really go off the rails to get there.

  1. Well said. You cannot imagine how I respect that idea of going forth not knowing the path you are taking. In art it leads to discovery and is a great way of moving forward, sometimes difficult and scary though. Love watching the progress though these faces. Reminds me of a certain painter named Vincent who spent a winter plodding through over 40 portraits!

  2. Hi Alan--thanks for the thoughts. Strange that I was thinking of Vincent recently, too--that despite everything he kept painting, as you said, without FB or a blog for immediate feedback. Maybe he had a community, but I can't remember.
