Lopez Calm

"Lopez Calm", 8 x 10 In, Oil on Museum Board
Between the tide and the wind, the water on this side of Lopez Island can be rough and fast, but at this moment in the day, there was a beautiful calm.

All of these paintings I did sometime in July and I've posted ahead until the middle of September. During the first part of August I was in Swedish Hospital for four days because of seizures I've been having for a couple of years--mild seizures that only my daughter can see, but that I often had on a daily basis. There is something on the brain MRI that is questionable and I will find out what it is when I talk to the neurosurgeon in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile they put me on anti-seizure meds that relieve the seizures but they make me feel awful! So we're working through that.

I'm telling you all of this because I'm trying to accept the reality--which I don't know fully yet. I only know that the seizures have been real enough to stop me in my tracks--

I've cleaned out my studio of all toxic substances and I would welcome any advice about non-toxic paint materials. I may go to acrylics and/or watercolors--it will be a new adventure.

Thank you to all the people who have supported me on my daily painting blog--you don't know how much I appreciate it. I hope to continue it, but there will be some challenges in the immediate future. Maybe for a while I will post some of my pre-blog paintings--I have been painting for so many years.

I'd love to hear by email from any of you who have faced similar challenges.

Thank you again,
Kathryn

  1. I had no idea Kathryn. We should never take life for granted. I hope this problem is resolved soon. I use M. Graham Walnut Oil as a medium and also to clean out brushes. If I need something to dry faster I use Graham Walnut Oil with Alkyd. Dries to the touch overnight for me.
Thank you for sharing, sometimes it's easier when the village is with you.

    Cheers my friend.

  2. Hi Kathryn,
I know it must be frightening. I hope it's an issue that can be resolved quickly and you start feeling better. I do hope to catch up with you in France sometime soon. It's always a good idea to have things to look forward to.
    Best wishes,
    Bruce

  3. Kathryn, I know from my own experience how nerve-wracking waiting for the diagnosis can be. We will all be thinking of you, and looking forward to your recovery and to more beautiful paintings.

  4. For sure, as Blanche suggested, the whole village is with you.

I am preparing to give the new water soluable oil paints a try.... I have no idea how they will behave or how non-toxic they may be.

Thoughts and prayers with you always.

  5. Thank you all for your comments--I so appreciate my artist friends. Have gone on a new diet and am feeling better. I'll see where this journey leads me--if nothing else, it has allowed me to slow down. Doing meditation and just started Yoga. Sometimes I think the spirit has to really knock at the door to get my attention.
