Berber Woman

When we were in Morocco we spent three days out on the desert east of the Atlas Mountains. One of our excursions was a two mile hike to a small nomadic Berber encampment. We sat in the tent and drank tea with this woman and her daughter--the young girl I painted a portrait of a couple of weeks ago. Our guide spoke a lot about the history of the Berbers, a people that I hadn't known anything about.

Last week, for maybe the first time this year, there were several beautiful days in the Northwest. On one of them, the mist hung over the Sound early in the morning, and I jumped into my studio to paint this sketch.

Trees on the Cove - SOLD

The problem with Western Washington in the summer is that there is just too much green. So when there is weather, there is something exciting to paint. And when there is weather, everything changes within minutes, so this painting was a fast one, probably not more than 30 minutes.

In the Sun

This is a portrait where I simply tried to capture the feeling of sunlight. It was a fast painting and I wasn't trying to make the likeness perfect--just have fun with the colors.
